Moon Inspired Cowl
For centuries, the moon has captivated our imaginations; glowing quietly above us, mysterious and constant. Even after the historic Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, that sense of wonder has never truly faded.

Now, with NASA’s Artemis III mission preparing to return astronauts to the lunar surface in September 2026, the moon is once again stirring dreams and sparking creativity.
I’ve found myself gazing upward more often lately, especially as autumn settles in. There’s something magical about this time of year; the skies darken earlier, the air turns crisp, and the moon seems brighter, bolder, and more textured against the night. Even with the naked eye, you can spot the shadows and contours of its surface, like ancient craters whispering stories from space of the great bombardment.
Inspired by this celestial season and the excitement of Artemis, I’ve begun designing a new knitting pattern: a moon-themed cowl. It will be a close-fitting neck warmer, shaped to hug the neckline and textured with cabled craters to echo the moon’s rugged terrain. I want it to feel like a wearable tribute to lunar landscapes; soft, sculptural, and quietly dramatic.
The cowl will be knitted flat using DK yarn, with a seam at the back for a neat finish. I’m aiming for a balance of comfort and cosmic charm; something you can wear on a chilly evening walk while moon-gazing, or simply when you want a little piece of the universe wrapped around you.
I’ll share more as the design takes shape, but for now, I’m letting the moonlight guide my stitches.
