It’s time for a serious dose of cuteness; introducing the Capybara Tea Cosy design sketch. Because honestly, who could resist an adorable capy keeping your tea warm?
Inspired by these gentle giants; like oversized guinea pigs with chill vibes, I thought a capybara would make an unusual, loveable addition to the TeaCosyFolk gang. It’s a perfect blend of adorability and comfort for your teatimes.
For this design, I’ve imagined the capybara sitting upright like a little tea-loving human, legs stretched out in front. I’ve carefully added his toes; three on the back paws and four on the front and exaggerated the size of his head a little. There’s just something irresistibly sweet about creatures with big heads, don’t you think?
If you peek at the sketch, you’ll notice I haven’t made holes in the middle of the cosy for the spout and handle. They’ll emerge neatly from each side. Personally, I find it a bit unsettling when tea cosies look like the spout and handle are tearing through their bellies.
Animal tea cosies are such a joy to make; partly because I adore animals, but also because creating something people find adorable is just heart-warming. There’s real magic in that.
I’ll be knitting this cosy in garter stitch (that’s knit every row), which I think will give the capybara a lovely textured look—just like a coat of fur.
Enjoy the design sketch video. The music’s a treat; though fair warning, it might get stuck in your head.
