Roll up, roll up—TeaCosyFolk is heading to the fair!
Following a fun little poll in the TeaCosyFolk Facebook Help Group, the next design to hit the sketchbook will be a Big Wheel Tea Cosy.
As a child, I adored the local Billy Bates fun fair; the smell of diesel generators, mixed with hotdog scents on the breeze, blaring music, dazzling lights... that magical mix used to give me butterflies on the way there. We always came home with a goldfish in a bag, and at one point we had four swimming around in our gold fish bowl.
Designing this tea cosy has been full of that same nostalgic joy. It’s going to be bright, bold, and brimming with colour. The base of the cosy will be the cab—the hub where all the machinery and the ride vendor sit—and I’ll be using vibrant red and yellow for that. The wheel will be white to let the colour of the pods pop.
And that matters—because as kids, the colour of your ride car was everything. Sitting in the wrong pod could make or break the fun! So I’ll be knitting bright, playful colours for each pod, complete with little canopy tops just like the umbrella-style ones I always loved.
The real challenge will be the wheel’s structure—it’ll need to hold its own while supporting the pods and their tops. But I’m excited for the challenge and the nostalgia it brings. It’s a summer-perfect project that stirs up memories of childhood, fairgrounds, and days by the seaside.
