There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about the golden age of cinema, the flicker of the projector, the rustle of sweet wrappers, and the smiling usherette guiding you to your seat with a torch and a tray of treats. That’s where the idea for my Cinema Usherette tea cosy began.
I wanted to capture that moment of glamour and service, when going to the pictures was an event. The hardest part of the design will be her tray; balancing popcorn boxes and soft‑drink cups, all knitted in miniature. It’s a challenge, but one that will make her instantly recognisable.
Her uniform will be a rich, classic red, the kind worn with pride by usherettes in the 1940s and 50s. I can already picture the gold buttons and neat little hat. Her hair will be a sculptural feature in itself: soft curls peeking out from under the cap, shaped carefully so it frames her face just right.
This cosy will celebrate the people who made cinema magical, the ones who kept the show running smoothly while the stars shone on screen. I think she’ll look amazing standing beside a pot of tea, ready to serve up a little nostalgia with every brew.
