Chocolate orange cosies are a firm favourite among knitters; quick to make, endlessly charming, and perfect for gifting at Christmas, Easter, birthdays, or just because.
What could be lovelier than receiving a handcrafted gift made especially for you, paired with a delicious chocolate treat?
While the classic Terry’s Chocolate Orange is still the go-to, they’ve now branched out into mint, toffee crunch, and other flavours; all with the same iconic round shape. So there’s a chocolate orange for every taste, and a cosy to match.
But what happens after the chocolate is gone?
It’s a shame to think that these joyful little covers, once part of a festive moment, end up tucked away or forgotten. That’s when I had the idea; what if we gave chocolate orange cosies a permanent perch, a stand-in orange that lets them shine all year round?
Introducing the chocolate orange mannequin. It’s a soft, fabric-based substitute designed to mimic the shape and weight of a real chocolate orange. Perfect for displaying your cosies, using as a tailor’s dummy while assembling, or bringing out with your seasonal decorations year after year.
When designing it, I knew structure was key. Knitted fabric alone wouldn’t hold its shape, so I opted for polycotton; affordable, easy to sew, and widely available in fat quarters. For weight and stability, I filled the mannequin with uncooked rice. It gives the cosy a solid base and keeps it upright, even when dressed in heavier designs.
The Chocolate Orange Mannequin is a a practical solution to display your chocolate orange covers.
The sewing pattern is simple, with just one piece to cut. You can hand sew or machine stitch it, and it’s quick to make. It’s a practical solution for knitters who want to display their chocolate orange covers or need a model that won’t mysteriously disappear mid-project (nom nom).
