Description

The Winter Scarf tea cosy was designed for the Simply Knitting Magazine issue 248 that went on sale on the 22nd February 2024.

I was inspired by that old story about the discovery of tea cosies, when someone had the idea to put a woolly hat over the teapot to insulate it whilst the tea brewed, and I thought - What if they had used a scarf? I thought that a scarf wrapped around a teapot would look far more cosy and would have the added benefit of overlapping and leaving openings for the spout and handle.

So for fun I designed a tea cosy that looked like a stripy scarf. The main cosy starts at the side rather than at the bottom, and the scarf goes across the teapot.

The scarf tea cosy has a few fancy rows too, I thought they would add interest. The fancy rows are easy to do and there is a help video to guide you.

The scarf is great for stash busting because it can be knitted in any colour combination.

Brrr! Wrap up against the winter chills and sip tea.

This Tea Cosy:

  • is made from double thickness yarn for extra insulation
  • fits a medium sized teapot that holds 6 to 8 cups or 2 pints
