Description

The Punky Tiger tea cosy is an impressionist design with just enough tiger elements to make a statement without ever spelling it out. I wanted to create a tea cosy that tapped into something wild and a little bit punk, inspired by that era of rebellion and bold self‑expression. The tiger print on the main cosy is knitted in intarsia from a chart, and the cream stripes graduating into Black and Spice look wonderfully dramatic wrapped around the teapot.

Around the bottom of the teapot is the tiger’s tail, curling under the spout or handle opening, with the tip lifting up to give the whole composition movement. Punks were heavily into studs, and the upright standing teeth on this tea cosy echo that studded look. They arch over the top of the teapot and down the front in a paw‑like shape, giving the cosy its unmistakable punky attitude while still keeping everything abstract.

To keep the shape looking smooth and sculptural, there’s a bit of hidden structure inside the cosy. The shaping creates a neat recess for the teapot lid knob, which helps the top arch beautifully without any bumps. It means the stripes flow cleanly over the form and the spikes stand proudly, giving the cosy its strong, punky silhouette.

The tea cosy fits a medium‑sized Price & Kensington teapot that holds six to eight cups of tea. It was such a fun cosy to knit, and the tiger print was a joy with its bright, contrasting colours. It’s fun, funky and a little bit wild; definitely a tea cosy for people with big personalities who love punk, love bold design, or simply love big cats. And if you’ve ever wondered what it might feel like to have a hint of tiger energy at teatime, this cosy brings that playful idea to life without stepping anywhere near the original story.

Stripes, spikes and Cattitude – Don’t stroke me, I bite.
