Description

The Mallard Duckling tea cosy was designed for the Simply Knitting Magazine issue 249 which goes on sale on the 21st March 2024.

Lets face it, it's not the duck we want to see when we visit a duck pond; it's the ducklings. And predominantly it's mallard ducklings that we see. Cute little grey and lemon fluffy little balls that dart about on the water, squeaking a call to their mother. They really are adorable.

It was these feathery little fluff balls that I was thinking of when I designed the Easter inspired, mallard duckling tea cosy. Easter is about re-birth and Easter eggs, and although people usually think of chicks, I thought that ducklings would make a sweet alternative.

This tea cosy fits a mini sized teapot that holds enough tea for one person, which makes this cute cosy the perfect size to gift for a tea lover at Easter.

The main part of the cosy makes the duckling's body and then the head, wings and feet are made and sewn on.

I love the big webbed feet. They are designed to show you the bottoms of the feet so that he looks as if he's sitting like a human would. Of course you wouldn't usually see a duckling in this pose, but that just adds to the cuteness appeal.

Mallard ducklings look as if they are wearing eyeliner, and they have a stripe over their eyes. The stripe on the duckling is embroidered on using chain stitch.

It's such a cute tea cosy and it's perfect for Easter, but being so adorable, you'll enjoy using him all year.
