Sandcastle Tea Cosy and Knitting Pattern

The Sandcastle tea cosy was designed for the Simply Knitting Magazine issue 227 which went on sale on the 21st July 2022.

I was at the beach one day and looking at a sandcastle I could visualise a teapot handle and spout protruding out either side of it, and that is what inspired this seaside theme design.

The sandcastle itself is very simply and has a textured surface to give it a gritty sandy look. The texture has a castellated edge upper edge to give a castle like feel.

On the top of the tea cosy are limpet shells and a scallop shell door that give it a medieval castle look. The castle is also decorated with a starfish, seaweed, an urchin, auger and cockle shells. But one shell has come to life and its trying to get away. Around the back is a little hermit crab with his eyes on stalks and his claw out ready to fight.

The tea cosy is knitted in Stylecraft Special DK throughout. There are short rows in the sea shells with means you turn the work before reaching the end of the current row.

It's a lovely summery tea cosy that transports you (in your mind) to the beach and the soft rippling waves of the sea.

Teatime at the beach or just a great reminder of teatimes at the seaside.
