The Emu Tea Cosy is a quirky, characterful design inspired by Australia’s fascinating flightless bird. After meeting an emu first hand, I was struck by their mischievous charm and knew I had to capture their essence in a tea cosy.

Emus aren’t exactly elegant creatures; they’re bundles of scruffy feathers, with dinosaur-like legs and moulting necks revealing patches of blue skin. Their expressive amber eyes blink with an unpredictable curiosity, and you never quite know what they’ll do next.

I’ve recreated this wonderfully odd bird with careful attention to detail. The body is knitted in two shades to mimic its rugged feathered form, while the head and neck use King Cole Moments for a soft, fluffy effect—just like an emu mid-moult. To bring even more realism, I’ve given the cosy amber safety eyes and dangling legs for an extra touch of fun.
