Description

The Tarantula tea cosy is enough to give anyone the creeps. Based on the Mexican redknee tarantula, this tea cosy is enough to send chills up your spine.

I wanted to design a tea cosy that would be good for Halloween and the most common phobia is probably arachnophobia, a fear of spiders. Films like 'Eight Legged Freaks' and 'Arachnophobia' play on that fear, there are even scary spiders in Harry Potter.

The nice thing about spiders is that their round bodies lend themselves to tea cosies. The main body of the tarantula is the actual tea cosy. Then the abdomen and the legs are knitted and attached to the main cosy.

When you think of a tarantula, I think that we probably image the black and orange one, which is the Mexican Redkee tarantula. So I chose to base the tea cosy on that species, and the colours are appropriate for Halloween and autumn.

His legs are knitted and stuffed and then drawn up at intervals to add shaping and structural support, so that the legs stand in an arched shape. I do think that the legs look as if they could start moving at any time.

The tea cosy is knitted in Stylecraft Special DK yarn in Black and Spice and have plastic safety eyes.

Does this tea cosy give you the creepy crawlies?
