The Cosmic Cuppa tea cosy is a space‑themed knitting pattern inspired by the moon landing and the first woman set to walk on the lunar surface. Designed for Simply Knitting Magazine Issue 272, on sale 24 December 2025, this novelty tea cosy brings a touch of lunar magic to your teapot.

This moon‑landing‑inspired tea cosy is truly out of this world. The main body is designed to look like a cratered moon, and perched proudly on the surface is a pink space shuttle that has just landed, complete with a matching pink flag claiming the moon.

The moon section is knitted using cable stitches to create rounded craters. Knitting the cables in means less sewing up later, and cables are naturally excellent insulators, trapping warm air to keep your teapot hotter for longer.

Inside the top of the cosy is a clever bit of structural support that levels off the shape and removes the usual hump created by the teapot lid, giving the moon a smooth, rounded silhouette.

The spacecraft is inspired by 1960s retro‑style rockets; a nod to the era of the original moon landings. The shuttle is knitted separately and sewn in place, and it looks wonderfully cute. The aquamarine tint on the windows could even be the reflection of planet Earth.

I think this is a super tea cosy design; fun, imaginative and full of character, while also making a bold statement in support of the incredible women pushing the boundaries of space exploration. I’ll raise my cuppa to that.
