Description

The Painting the White Roses Red tea cosy was designed for the Simply Knitting Magazine issue 233 which went on sale on the 30th December 2022.

This tea cosy was inspired by the story of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and a teapot kept under a tea cosy like this is begging to be drunk. The wrong rose bushes have been planted, and they are covered in white roses. But the Queen likes red roses, so the cards are fixing the problem by painting the white roses red.

The main part of the cosy is knitted in a leaf like textured pattern to create the base of the rose bush. The roses are knitted and sewn on afterwards. Not all of the roses have been painted, so there are a few white roses as well as red ones. You can see that one of the red roses is dripping red paint.

At the base of the rose bush is a paint pot and paint brush that have hurriedly been hidden. Maybe one of the cards will be returning to continue painting in a while, if he's not had his head chopped off.

The top of the rose bush has a big red heart that has a small golden crown at its base which is a nod towards the Queen of Hearts, the fictional queen from the story. The heart finishes the tea cosy.

I really love this tea cosy, it has a Christmas Panto vibe to it and it's perfect for people who love the story of Alice in Wonderland.

When you world feels like the Mad Hatters tea party, you need a hot cup of tea.
