Description

King Alfred the Great, the king of Wessex who fought the Vikings; I thought he would make a great tea cosy.

The tea cosy has Alfred stood in his medieval attire, in a smock and a cloak and his simply looking crown on his head. Most images of Alfred depict him with a beard, so I have gone with the majority and included a beard.

There's a story about Alfred when he burnt the cakes he was asked to keep an eye on. But his mind was occupied by Vikings, and he forgot to take the cakes out of the oven in time, and they burned. With this little story in mind, I designed Alfred the Great with a tray of burnt cakes.

He's a lovely unusual tea cosy, steeped in history. And with the recent discovery of Richard III remains in Leicester, I thought maybe a tea cosy of King Alfred the Great might magically help his remains that the pesky monks hid come to light again. Afterall, anything is possible after a hot cup of tea.

King Alfred the Great, perfect for hot tea, rubbish at cakes!
